The Irish Government has designated 2013 to be the year of the Gathering. This event it is hoped, will encourage the return, for a short time, of all those who have left Ireland’s shores as well as those descendants whose forefathers departed Ireland many generations ago. The Irish Jewish Community in association with the Irish Government, is now active in preparations for this unprecedented national event. We hope to offer a program of events over a 10 day period between July 20th – July 30th 2013 that will explore and celebrate the richness of our Irish Jewish identity. Themes will include the Arts, Music, Literature, History, and Politics as well as the unique role that Jews have played in the history of Ireland and its culture. Many of these events will take place in the Irish Jewish Museum. Watch out for a detailed list of events coming soon.
So whether your interest lies in the role of Jews in the writings of Joyce or Becket, the role of Jews in the founding of the State and in Politics or memories stirred by a walk along Dun Laoghaire Pier, the stoney promenade in Bray, the beautiful Gardens of Powerscourt in Enniskerry or a walk down memory lane to see Clanbrassil Street and its environs where you, your parents or grandparents lived, we promise a visit home like none before. So for some great Irish craic, plan now to join us between July 20th – July 30th 2013 for the PARTY you don’t want to miss.
