Immanuel Jakobovits

The position of Chief Rabbi in Ireland remained vacant during the war years but in 1949 Immanuel Jakobovits was appointed to the position. In 1959 he took up the position of Rabbi of the Fifth Avenue Synagogue in New York and in 1966 he became Chief Rabbi of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth. He was elevated to Lord Jakobovits in 1988.
