Born in South Africa, Rabbi Ephraim Mirvis was appointed to the position of Chief Rabbi of Ireland in 1985 and held the post until 1992. He left Ireland to become Rabbi of Western Marble Arch Synagogue in London and in May 1996 Rabbi Mirvis was appointed to the Finchley United Synagogue also known as Kinloss in London. Following the footsteps of Rabbi Jacobovits, Rabbi Mirvis was named as successor to Lord Sacks as Chief Rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth in December 2012.
