Rabbi Isaac HaLevy Herzog was Rabbi of Belfast before coming to Dublin in 1919. With the formation of the Irish Free State in 1922 he became the community’s first Chief Rabbi.
He left Ireland for Palestine to become their Chief Rabbi there in 1937.
