Born in 1905 in the centre of the crumbling Austro-Hungarian Empire, Viktor Frankl was a witness to the great political, philosophical and scientific upheavals of the twentieth century. In this stirring recollection of Frankls life and times, Logo therapist Peter Purcell, will describe how as a young doctor of neurology in pre war Vienna his disagreements with Freud and Adler led to the development of the “third Viennese school of Psychotherapy”, known as Logotherapy, recounts his harrowing trials in four concentration camps during the war; reflects on the celebrity brought by the publication of his book Man’s Search for Meaning and integrates dimensions around the Irish Jewish community in Ireland today.
“To live is to suffer; to survive is to find meaning in the suffering” – Prof. Viktor Frankl (1905 – 1997)
