The IJM is delighted to present an afternoon with Yanky Fachler of The Jewish Historical Society of Ireland. The talk will take place at the IJM Sunday, November 27th, 2016 at 4PM.
Why George Eliot wrote the first Zionist novel, Daniel Deronda
In 1876, 20 years before Theodore Herzl launched the Zionist Movement, one of Britain’s foremost Victorian novelists wrote Daniel Deronda, about a young man who discovers his Jewish roots and goes to Palestine to help his people reclaim their ancient land. In his talk, Yanky Fachler explores what prompted George Eliot to write Daniel Deronda, and what impact the novel had on readers across the world.
