Marilyn Reizbaum is the Harrison King McCann Professor of English at Bowdoin College, Maine, U.S.A. She works in the areas of modernist studies, contemporary Scottish and Irish literatures and film, Jewish cultural studies, the history of ideas. She has written widely on the work of James Joyce, and other modernist writers such as Djuna Barnes and Virginia Woolf. She is the author of James Joyce’s Judaic Other, co-editor of Ulysses – En-Gendered Perspectives Eighteen New Essays on the Episodes and a contributor to Collaborative Dubliners: Joyce in dialogue. Her recent book project is Unfit: the Jewish Science of Modernism and she is working on a monograph on Muriel Spark’s literary style, “The Art of Ridicule.” In this lecture, Marilyn draws on her correspondence with the late Gerald Goldberg to offer some new perspectives on Joyce.
