Aspects of his research suggest the mission was driven with intra-personal rivalries, and illustrates Briscoe’s senior role in the tragedy of the Mercaz Le Aliyah, the revisionist version of the Aliyah Bet, which would infamously come to be known as the Coffin Ships. The Heritage Week lecture will expand on this research and impose a new paradigm on this momentous undertaking.
Dr. Kevin J McCarthy recently completed his PhD at University College Cork, on “The Zionist Evolution of Robert Briscoe: History and Memory”. He is about to embark on post-doctoral research into Briscoe’s long and complicated interaction with Germany, and has forthcoming articles on Briscoe’s immigration initiative and on his relationship with de Valera.
