The fascinating life of Mike Flanagan: Born 1926 Foxford Co. Mayo. Enlisted in the British Army, 1942. Participated in the liberation of Bergen-Belsen and subsequently stationed with his regiment in British Mandate Palestine. How he came to join the Haganah and receive the Wiesenthal Medal of Valour. The author will cover some of the rich military heritage of Foxford Co. Mayo, which produced the founding fathers of the Argentine Navy and the IDF Armoured Corps. Also, The British Mandate, Palestine and Sir Charles Taggart’s mission to ‘Keep Palestine British’. The Arab revolt, and the Israel War of Independence.
Capt. Donal Buckley (ret’d) MA (Hist) lives in Mayo and is a former Army Officer. He has deep interest in military, Irish and Jewish history. He is a Holocaust teacher, a battlefield tour guide and occasional author. See BuckleyHistoryBooks.com for more information.
