In 1948 approximately 100 Jewish Slovak children, who had survived the Holocaust, spent one year of respite and recovery in Clonyn Castle, Co Westmeath, Ireland. The procurement of the castle, the transport of the children and the arrangements to stay in Ireland were organized by Rabbi Dr Solomon Schonfeld.
Barbara Barnett will talk about her book, The Hide-And-Seek Children in the RDS on Wednesday 01 May 2013. In it she recounts the personal stories of some of the “children”, how they came to Ireland, the year they spent in the castle, and what happened to them afterwards.
Barbara will talk about her journey researching and writing her book and hopes to introduce members of Rabbi Schonfeld’s family and some of the “children” who will come to Ireland especially for the event.
