On Monday 22 June 2015 at 7.30pm The Jewish Historical Society of Ireland will present a talk by Katherine Stafford entitled The Line in the Sand: The war of intrigue and espionage between France and Britain to control the Middle East after World War I
For 30 years after the 1915 secret Sykes-Picot agreement dividing the Ottoman Empire’s Middle Eastern territories, France and Britain struggled to oust one another from their respective halves. In this talk, Katherine Stafford describes how a declassified 1945 British government report revealed that it was the French who financed Jewish groups committed to expelling the British from Palestine, and it was the French who clandestinely sold arms to the Haganah.
