Rosa Solomons was born in Hull, one of eleven children. A gifted linguist and pianist, she was instrumental in the development of education for girls at Mary’s Abbey Synagogue and later at Adelaide Rd.
Mother of an illustrious family which included Bethel and Estella Solomons, Rosa Jane (nee Jacobs) published poetry inspired by her personal and spiritual life. The poems reproduced here come from her collection The Memorial Lamp and Other Poems.
