On Sunday, 8 May 2016 at 4pm Yanky Fachler will present a Yom Hashoa Lecture in memory of Holocaust survivor Eli Fachler z”l entitled Stalin’s Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee and the Black Book of Russian Jewry.
Stalin’s deep-seated anti-Semitism before and after World War 2 is well documented. But for 5 years after the 1941 Nazi invasion of Russia, he needed the help of prominent Russian Jews to secure the support of the Jews in the USA and Britain.
The Jewish Anti-Fascist Committee’s lasting achievement was the 1946 publication of the Black Book of Russian Jews, which detailed the Nazi genocide in Russia. This was the first great documentary work on the Holocaust.
